The final act of this ceremony is the shattering of the glass. This old custom has many traditions, with many interpretations. At one time it was meant to scare off demons who frequent celebrations. It was also meant to remind us on a happy occasion like this that the world is full of less fortunate people. It also reminds us of the destruction of the Temples in ancient Jerusalem. It also reminds us that it is our task to help repair this shattered world.

Let me start by saying how lucky we were to find Samantha Hendricks. She has the warmest personality, lights up any room, is so calming during emotional times, and is utterly professional. From the first time we met over zoom to the time we sat down in person, her professionalism is like none other. She's extremely detail-oriented, precise in her work, and has a level of communication that's so well thought-out that we knew she was on top of everything. Before our ceremony started Samantha arrived early, warmed up and chatted with our guests, and made sure to meet the wedding party. With her infectious smile, she was able to calm an entire room including (most importantly) the grooms. Samantha is the type of officiant that you want. After we interviewed her, we knew she was the one for us and boy were we right! Thank you ever so much! Nov 2022

She spoke well and was very inviting. All of our family and friends had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. We wouldn't hesitate to recomend her to anyone!!!! Thanks again Mari!

Sue (Kellison) officiated at our wedding on Saturday, 2 July 2016 at The Courtyard Restaurant. Sue was professional, warm, welcoming and reassuring to both Michael and myself. She communicated clearly before the wedding and it felt like we had known her for years. She clearly explained the procedures and format of the ceremony and during the ceremony, when we both became emotional, Sue reassured us and allowed us time to compose ourselves, she even provided tissue. The most amazing thing about Sue is the way she read the ceremony that we had written. She read it as if it was her own ceremony, with passion, emotion, and beauty. We had a Lord of the Rings Themed ceremony and Sue had to read names of different realms of Middle Earth as well as declare, "Bring forth the rings." She did this with great enthusiasm and created an environment of intimacy, making Mike and I feel as if we were the only ones in the room, but still making our guests feel a part of the ceremony. Many guests complemented us on choosing Sue and asked if she was a friend of ours. We explained that we had met her only once before the ceremony and they were shocked because of the way she made it seem as if our wedding was the most important wedding in the world. Thank you, Sue, for being a part of our wedding and for making it such a beautiful and comfortable ceremony!

Richard was absolutely great. He was very accommodating of what we wanted for our ceremony, and was helpful in tweaking it in a way that made it special and meaningful to us. He was very easy to get along with and made the whole process feel easy and comfortable. He was able to roll with the ceremony when my wife and I kept screwing up the words and laughing through our vows, and made the whole thing come together beautifully. I would definitely recommend Richard. September, 2018

Alan Viau was the consummate officiant. He was friendly and welcoming, swiftly forming a rapport with my (now!) husband and I. He wore his experience and wisdom lightly, and brought many ideas to the discussion which we had not considered. His willingness to include a favorite film reference (the 'Mawwiage' scene from 'The Princess Bride') told us we'd found the right person. On the day he arrived in good time, made everybody feel at ease, and was the ideal anchor by being the focal point of the day but making sure we were the center of attention. Even signing the paperwork was a breeze. Honestly, I was sorry to see him leave, though it was entirely meet that he did, without fuss and with all our gratitude and good wishes. Thank you, Alan Viau, Ottawa's "Dr Wedding" :-) Simon and Jonathan May 2020

El-Farouk was lovely, accommodating and exceeded our expectations. It felt so great to have him there for our special day. I am glad that we live in a place where we can not only get married, but have an officiant like El-Farouk. September 2021
